The vibrant and diverse Twin Cities restaurant scene has seen some pretty significant changes over the last several weeks – as have restaurants, purveyors, and artisans all over the world.
Many of us are happy to do what we can to help support them, and if every good thought was worth a dollar, we’d surely be able to keep them all comfortably afloat during these difficult times. But thoughts don’t pay the rent. So we #TakeOut2LiftUp – an idea initiated by our fave Twin Cities foodie-cheerleader, Stephanie March and @MSPmag.
Recently, an Instagram post from Pig Ate My Pizza sparked an idea in my Bloody Mary-loving mind. Then, fellow Bloody Mary-lover, @bloodymaryobsessed, who invited a bunch of us to collaborate last summer on an article highlighting some of the best Bloody Marys throughout Minnesota suggested that we talk more about current things happening with Twin Cities Bloody Marys. You can check out the new post here: Sunday Funday Quarantine with These Bloody Mary To-Go Kits Across the Twin Cities which features some of the bloody goodness below!
And here we are: Twin Cities restaurant-created Bloody Mary mixes and kits currently available for take-out and curbside pick-up. Inspiration for ready-made brunch, lunch and happy hours that you can take home and make your own! And to extend the “at-home restaurant experience,” I’m including a few pairing suggestions as well because, well, one cannot live on Bloody Marys alone. And with all the great things restaurants are offering on their Take-Out Menus, it’s fun to check out the variety. Enjoy!
RESTAURANT-CREATED BLOODY MARY KITS & MIXES
AVAILABLE EVERY DAY: 6Smith, Wayzata
DIY Bloody Mary Kits available every day for curbside pick-up and local delivery via ChowNow.
Order online 11am – 8pm daily.
Bloody Mary Mix & House Pickles: Super-secret recipe with fresh horseradish, English cucumber and spices. Served with a pint of house pickles & signature spice mix for glass rim. 1 quart. $17.95. Just add booze!
6Smith Restaurant’s DIY Bloody Mary Kit – styled in the spirit of their sublimely sippable House Bloody.
LOVE the fresh, cucumber-y base in this mix! It’s an easy sipper – even without alcohol – and it’s extremely forgiving if you accidentally happen to pour in a little too much vodka after a long day at the home office. The spicy/sweet/hot pickles are an absolute fave of mine, hands-down!PAIRING SUGGESTIONS
Bread is Life: French baguette, honey ricotta, soft butter, green chimichurri. This is perhaps the most appropriately-named appetizer ever. This bread IS life! It’s perfectly crusty, lovingly buttered, flavorful AF, and was delicious beyond my expectations. The accoutrements were their own soirée of deliciousness… the chimichurri deserves the highest of accolades. This is truly a bread lover’s dream. Get it!!!
AVAILABLE TUESDAY – SATURDAY: Pig Ate My Pizza, Robbinsdale
‘Pig’s Blood’ Bloody Mix available for curbside pick-up.
Order online Tuesday – Saturday, 3:30 – 7:00pm, for same day pick-up.
This Bloody Mix is what inspired this project, because: “Proceeds from every quart of Pig’s Bloody Mix sold will be used to provide our recently unemployed staff a weekly grocery package of basics and specialty ingredients. You are our lifeblood!” How awesome is that?! 1 quart. $10.00. Booze not included.
This is the “Sam Kinison” of Bloody Mary mixes. It’s loud, and it’s proud. It’s thicc y’all, and bold AF with curiously rich marinara notes that’ll keep you coming back for more. Spicy? You bet! This one is not for timid palates, and it can take an extra shot like a champ!
PAIRING SUGGESTIONS
PIGGY PIE: Brioche crust, marinara sauce, pork sausage, pepperoni, bacon emulsion, toasted black pepper fennel, oregano. I’m not even kidding when I say that my taste buds wept tears of joy with this one. There is so much bacon-y goodness here, and the brioche crust is soft, chewy and crusty all at once, and in all the right places.
CAULIFLOWER: Charmoula, bacon, scallion, basil. Because, balance! I had to get something “healthy” in the mix. We loved every bite!
AVAILABLE WEDNESDAY – SUNDAY: Red Rabbit, North Loop / Red Cow, all locations
Bloody Mary Mix Kit available for take-out and curbside delivery.
Order online @ Red Rabbit and Red Cow, Wednesday – Sunday, 11am – 3pm.
BLOODY MARY MIX (makes 4+ cocktails): House Bloody Mary mix, 4 beef sticks, 4 cheese cubes, 4 olives, house pickles, skewers & rimming salt. Just add your favorite vodka. 1 quart in a glass Kerr jar. $22.00. Alcohol not included. *I added lemon. (I add lemon to everything!) The mix is bright and balanced – not “heavy”. While it’s not “too” spicy, it’s not shy either. Adding hot sauce is totally optional here, but not needed. Great garnishes. Go ahead and pour another one!
While they do offer several other brunch items, Red Rabbit & Red Cow created the perfect pairing for weekenders!
PAIRING SUGGESTIONS
BREAKFAST BURRITOS AND BLOODY MARYS: 2 breakfast burritos + a Bloody Mary kit, $40.00.
The big, hearty burritos are wrapped in warm, soft tortillas (and then wrapped in foil, so they’re still warm when you get home – even after taking 847 pictures). They’re loaded with hash browns, sausage, sweet corn, green peppers, and black beans, and served with sour cream and salsa verde. While the burritos are hearty, they’re not heavy. Super fresh and delicious!
RUFFLE CHIPS & DIPS: Seasoned ruffle chips, creamy Parmesan dip. Never underestimate the power of chips & dip, y’all! This shareable snack is wonderful to nibble on later in the day, say around 5:00… with a nice Pinot Noir or Cabernet… Perhaps as you prep dinner or ponder what to order next for take-out. No judgement here!
AVAILABLE THURSDAY – SATURDAY: Stray Dog, Northeast Minneapolis
House Bloody Mary Mix available for curbside pick-up or delivery.
Order online Thursday – Saturday, 4- 8pm. NOTE: Receive 20% off + free delivery when you order online!
House Bloody Mary Mix. About a quart. $10.00. If you’ve ever visited Stray Dog, you know that scratch-made dishes and robust flavors are kinda their thing. It’s no surprise, then, that their Bloody Mary has some serious attitude. Lots of spicy, briney kick, and black pepper and horseradish.
PAIRING SUGGESTIONS
We made this into a Happy Hour Bloody by garnishing it with Stray Dog’s killer Rooster Wings and Tots which have been a favorite of ours since we first tried them over a year ago.
ROOSTER WINGS: Big, juicy, meaty wings bathed in signature Rooster Sauce (see below). They’re served with a killer peanut sauce for dipping.
TOTS: We opted for the Plain Tots (served with House Ketchup) for this one. Just. Plain. Good.
EXTRA SAUCE: While they’re not currently bottling their Signature Rooster Sauce, you can still buy containers of it for just $4. Do it! It’s a highly addictive hot/sweet, ginger-y concoction with the kind of heat that makes you sniffle a little – in a good way! It’s great to have on-hand for grilling season – fabulous with chicken, chops, veggies, and even scrambled eggs. Seriously… Try it!
AVAILABLE ALL WEEK LONG: Bacio, Minnetonka
Bloody Mary Kit available every day for curbside pick-up or local delivery.
View the menu. To order, call 952-544-7000, Noon – 7:00pm; delivery within 15-minutes of Bacio, 4 – 7pm.
Bacio’s Bloody Mary set-up includes Bacio’s delicious Bloody Mary mix, celery salt, and garnishes. 1 quart. $16.95. Just add your own alcohol to make about 4 Bloody Marys. This is what I’d call a “refined” mix. Not lacking in anything. Fresh and flavorful, and a great Bloody that anyone would love, anytime!
Happy Hour Bonus: Look for Stu’s cocktail videos on Facebook, YouTube or Instagram! Cheers!
PAIRING SUGGESTIONS
Parmesan Chicken Sandwich on ciabatta with mozzarella. Served with chips and a fabulous marinara to dip the sammie in. So, so good!!
While the Bloody kit travels perfectly well, the Parmesan Chicken Sandwich didn’t make it home for beauty shots. We enjoyed it in a little car picnic by the lake, and decided we have to get this sandwich again soon because we loved it!
AVAILABLE SATURDAY & SUNDAY: The Block, St. Louis Park + all Craft & Crew locations (below)
DIY Bloody Mary Kits are available Saturday and Sunday for curbside pick-up.
Order online 9am – 1pm.
The Block, St. Louis Park
Pub 819, Hopkins
Stanley’s Bar Room, Northeast Minneapolis
The Howe, Minneapolis
C&C Bloody Mary Mix with garnishes. 32 oz. Serves 4. $15.00. Just add your own alcohol. These Bloody Mary Kits are currently available only on weekends, but rumor has it that they’ll soon be on the permanent menu. This is a great anytime Bloody Mary. Mild-ish with a twist, it’s got plenty of personality!
