Lemon Basil Verde Sauce is bursting with bright, basil flavor and color, and can be enjoyed in lots of different ways!
This is a quick and easy verde sauce to make – there are only 4 – 5 ingredients. It’s wonderful as-is, but depending on your preferences and how you’ll be serving it, simply seasoning it with salt, pepper and/or red pepper flakes will accent the flavor profiles beautifully.
Serve this Citrus Basil Verde Sauce with seafood, steak, and poultry. Drizzle it on grilled and roasted vegetables. Add it to cheese boards and charcuterie. Mix it in with your favorite sandwich spread, or skip the spread altogether and enjoy the clean, fresh flavors that this sauce adds. You can also just toss this verde sauce with some fresh greens (add a little vinegar, if you’d like, for a quick vinaigrette)!
I’ve been making versions of this simple sauce for years. It’s a wonderful way to combine and use up small amounts of fresh herbs like parsley, tarragon, lovage, etc. But this time, I had the pleasure of making it with nothing but fresh, Minnesota Grown basil!

Bonus “recipe” : Thinly slice a baguette and lightly butter one side of each slice. Place the slices – buttered side down – in a warm skillet over medium-low heat, and a allow the slices to brown slightly. Top the toasts with shrimp, thinly sliced steak or fresh tomatoes, and Lemon Basil Verde Sauce – or just the sauce alone – and devour!
While I enjoy growing basil in my herb planters each summer, having fresh, locally-grown basil available during the winter months is a treat! And it’s something that we’ll all be able to enjoy soon because Minnesota-based REVOL GREENS is now growing fresh BASIL!
This recipe was produced in partnership with REVOL GREENS – Minnesota grown, 365 days a year.
REVOL GREENS provides the freshest, best-tasting greens, grown locally and sustainably without the use of pesticides, herbicides or other harsh chemicals. They’re available in stores within a day or two of harvesting which means fresher, longer lasting greens for us to enjoy at home!
Although I received compensation and/or product for this recipe, all opinions are my own. I genuinely enjoy – and am always happy to use – REVOL GREENS in my home.
Adding verde (fresh green) to anything is my absolute favorite way to brighten flavors and include beneficial vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants to our diet.
“Basil contains many vitamins and minerals, as well as antioxidants such as lutein, zeaxanthin, beta-carotene, and beta-cryptoxanthin. Many of basil’s health benefits come from these antioxidants, as well as its essential oils. These compounds mostly disappear during the drying process, so opt for fresh basil whenever possible to gain the most benefits.” -WebMD
As with any recipe that incorporates just a few ingredients, make sure to use the freshest and best ingredients possible. I finally cracked open a beautiful bottle of EVOO from a friend (Thank you so much, KB!), and the well-rounded richness of this verde sauce benefited greatly from the quality of the olive oil!
Enjoy!
